Expatriates, Be Prepared for a New Work Lifestyle

There are 195 countries in the world and the work lifestyle is very different in each of them. Each country has its own unique culture and abides by its own set of laws. This is why it’s crucial for expatriates to conduct research and understand the work environment in their destination country.

India, Brazil and the US are three of the most popular destinations for expats. Since these countries are quite unique, each one has a very different working lifestyle. The following article provides you with a scope into the working ways of India, Brazil and the US.

Working in India

If you are an expatriate moving to India for work, be prepared for change. Since India now has over one billion inhabitants, it has experienced a massive increase in the amount of businesses entering and establishing themselves. Although many areas of India are thriving, other areas are still suffering from poverty and unemployment.

Unfortunately, foreigners who are looking to move to India are unable to purchase property there but can secure a long-term lease or rental property. However, keep in mind that the population in India is on the rise and there could be an increase in costs, depending on your preferred location.

Most Indians are kind and friendly and quite easy to gel with in a work environment. If you are welcoming and courteous to others, expect the same treatment in return.

Working in Brazil

Many expats enjoy the fascinating culture and tropical climate in Brazil but what about the working lifestyle?  In Brazil, there’s actually a lot of competition for work and many people have difficulties finding jobs.

As far as work visas go, you cannot actually get one if you don’t already have a job. If you would like to request a work visa, you need to contact the Brazilian Consulate. This application needs to be submitted in person and you need to arrange an appointment prior to going.

Brazil is a place that many people are proud to call home. If you are thinking of moving here, make sure you know all about the work lifestyle before you set out for your new home.

Working in the USA

Because there are so many jobs in the USA, the country is often referred to as “The Land of Opportunity”. While these employment opportunities may appeal to some, others may not enjoy the intense work environment.

Currently, with the recession, it has become quite difficult to secure a job, especially one in an office. This is because many companies are downsizing and Americans who are looking for work are grabbing office jobs as soon as they arise. This means that as an expat, you should make sure that you have work lined up before you venture to the US.

If you are able to secure a job in the US, make sure to be polite and respectful towards workmates and management. Kindness and respect goes a long way in every business.
