Expat Relocation Guides

Living and working overseas can be very challenging and yet very rewarding.  It is truly joyful to be able to sample the culture of another land and to grow in your experience and knowledge by meeting so many new and genuine people.  You may have never seriously considered going abroad for professional reasons.  However, recent economic changes in America may cause you to reflect on the advantages and disadvantages of pursuing other opportunities.

When you are an expat, first and foremost, you must be aware of national law.  There is no international law, not technically, and when you deal with governments, you are only dealing with one set of rules at a time.  When you stay in India, you abide by Indian law.  When you are in the U.K. you go by U.K. standards.  Most countries don't have any rules about dual citizenships or multi-national citizenships, though a few may require formal disassociation of your former country before you can join as a citizen.  You learn these in advance and there will be few problems.

Before you start traveling abroad, you will need to get organized and find the support you need for your journey ahead.  You will need to prepare family members for the big move and notify the proper authorities.  You will need to make sure that you have insurance coverage (long before even leaving the States) and that as many as events as possible are covered in the policy.

It may be a beneficial idea to order expat relocation guides so you can recognize and avoid many of the pitfalls associated with starting out in a new country without a clue.  You will also do well to learn as many foreign phrases and terms unique to your country as possible so communication will be improved.  If you have children or a spouse that travels with you then you have to consider their needs.  Your spouse may even want to work on his or her own, or perhaps travel the country.

On the subject of relocation, know that there are also various issues that concern security and health.  There are various regulations that you must become aware of as relates to moving dangerous weapons, chemical substances, appliances and even animal life.  The more advance preparation you do, the better.  You wouldn't ever want to be separated from a four-legged member of the family!  Last but not least, there could be problems with reentry back to the United States.

What's nice about guides and instruction books on expatriate travel is that you can learn all of the common mishaps that others tend to do and avoid them, ensuring your time away from home is enjoyable in every respect.
